Cha Cha Matcha

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you’ve probably heard about a type of green tea called matcha. Matcha is a green tea powder that is whisked and dissolved in either milk or water rather than steeped in a tea bag. With alleged health benefits including boosted metabolism, antioxidants, detoxing, disease prevention, lowered cholesterol and more, it’s no surprise that everyone has been hopping aboard the matcha train. Countless matcha tea shops have even started popping up across the states, arguably the most popular being Cha Cha Matcha. Maybe you’ve seen it on Instagram! I can pretty much guarantee that 100% of all bloggers and Insta influencers that you follow have visited Cha Cha Matcha while visiting the Big Apple. With its sleek but also super hipster, beach paradise decor, it becomes an Instagram wonderland. Even the drinks are beautiful, but it’s not always so easy to get in. There is constantly a line out the door, a fashion frenzy of a line, but a line nonetheless.

Yesterday, I finally decided to try it out and see if it lives up to the hype. My friends Briese, Danielle and I stood in line outside for probably 10 minutes. It was a pretty short line actually, and the weather was ahhhmazinggg, so we didn’t mind the wait. As soon as the menu made it into my line of sight, my eyes shot directly to the Matcha Lemonade. YUMMM. That’s what I ordered. When the barista handed me my drink, I couldn’t help but swoon. It was the most beautiful green color with 2 perfectly placed mint leaves and a slice of lemon.

I took one sip and loved it...but then I tasted Briese’s Iced Matcha. Okay, so I know I’m super dramatic, but it actually tasted like dirt. I’m someone who really appreciates some good, wholesome, healthy food, but matcha was not hitting the spot. I didn’t taste Danielle’s Matcha Latte, but from her expression, I could tell it was pretty dirt-y as well. I felt like I was winning for sure. I loved my drink, and I got a great pic inside, but several minutes later, I got a horrible stomach ache. It could have been from the sugar in the lemonade considering I pretty much only drink water, but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

Even though my drink from Cha Cha Matcha was good, both Briese and Danielle’s definitely weren’t. I’m thinking that Cha Cha Matcha drinks make for better accessories and Instagram posts than for drinking. But either way, you should still go to see how adorable the place is. Just remember, get the Matcha Lemonade! I mean, unless you like the taste of dirt. Then a Matcha Latte is totes for you.
