LIFE & STYLE

Hey Spring, Where the Hell are ya?

Even though it doesn’t quite feel like it, Spring is upon us. Ah, the season of sundresses, sandals and bare (untanned) arms. On that note, if anyone has any good self tanner recommendations, let ya girl know. I’m not just pale AF, I’m luminescent. Okay Z, let’s get back on track. Anyway, with Spring, comes Spring cleaning...whomp whomp, but it’s all with good intention to refill your closets and drawers, and literally any corner of your room with new, Spring, clothing. What? That’s not the way it’s supposed to work? Oops. I clearly didn’t get the memo. If you’re anything like me, Spring cleaning takes foreverrrr, mainly because I get distracted by the tiniest things, and it takes me about 10 minutes (for each item) to decide if I’ll really wear it if keep it. The answer is no. I will never wear it. In fact if it takes me more than 2 seconds to consider, it should have been thrown out the window during Spring cleaning circa 2014. It’s okay. It’s a process, a total pain in the ass process, but that doesn’t mean replacing your old things with new ones has to be a long, pain-in-the-ass process too. In fact, I’ve put together a comprehensive list of all the best things you need for this Spring season, complete with links to shop the styles. You can thank me now.

The utilitarian style seems to be a year round trend, but as Spring comes around, and the sun decides to finally make an appearance, it's time to transition out of heavy wools and cottons, and into light and airy linens and denims. Try adding the utilitarian style into your everyday looks by breaking up a print with a simple army jacket or with a cute, carry-all tote. Don't be afraid to invest a little bit into these pieces. They will never go out of style, and they will seamlessly transition your wardrobe from season to season.

Not all trends are long-lasting like our friend utilitarian, and that's okay. Sometimes, trends come along that only last for a season or two. Sometimes they only last over night. My guess is that fringe won't be sticking around forever, so don't blow too much of your hard earned cash my friends. It may not last forever, but it's still freaking cute, and if done right, totally chic. Try adding fringe in a subtle way. Fringe is already an attention grabber. There's no need to do it in crazy colors or paired back with loud prints. Keep it simple. Sometimes less is more.

If you're motto is "all that glitters is gold," then baby it's your season to shine. Spring 2018 is coming in hot with everything glimmer. Yes, that means metallic, sequins, satin, and even more velvet (in case you didn't already get enough this Fall). Make these items your statement pieces, and don't be afraid to experiment with crazy colors. If you're bold enough to wear a full sequin dress, you're bold enough to wear it in banana yellow.

Spring is making its move, and you're ready to check mate. Of course, gingham is always a Spring staple, but this year Mrs. Gingham has been kind enough to invite her dear friends Plaid and Checks out of the cold. A good check/plaid/gingham works as the coolest neutral print. If you really want to go for it, try pairing it back to another print, like a feminine floral. The contrast will look awesome, and prove that you have sophisticated style.

Okay, I'll admit it...this one is the scariest of them all. Don't get me wrong. I love color. I just don't love to wear it. I'm more of an all over black, sometimes white kind of gal. But, 2018 is the year of stepping outside your comfort zone, so it looks like I'll be trying out bold colors this Spring. I'll report back to you and let you know if I survive.

Now that you have been prepped with the top 5 trends of Spring 2018, it looks like you're ready to start shopping...I mean Spring  cleaning. Happy Shopping Babes!!! Oh, and don't forget to leave a comment with your recommendations of tanning lotions. I wasn't kidding about the whole being pale thing.
